Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church
METAIRIE, LOUISIANA
HISTORY
Having celebrated their centennial mass this past April, 2024, Sainte-Chapelle studios had the privilege of beautifying the churches sanctuary. In 1939, the parish celebrated mass seating no more than 300 people. The community has grown exponentially over the last century, and St. Francis Xavier now stands as a pillar of the Old Metairie community.
OUR WORK
Sainte-Chapelle Studios was engaged for the sanctuary beautification and rear wall of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Drawing from the local culture, Marian symbolism, and rich color palette of repurposed stained-glass windows, the work brings a greater sense of majesty and beauty to the church. Elegantly designed as a dark blue fleur-de-lis against a light blue background (with colors custom designed), this balanced array of lilies forms a veritable garden of flowers to adorn the New Eden of the sanctuary, where Christ, even now, comes again at every Mass to make all things new. By framing the crucifix on each side, the design focuses the congregations prayerful attention on Christ, who is, in the words of St. Paul in Colossians 1, "the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation...in [whom] all things hold together." Whereas previously these walls were a blank space awaiting adornment, they now lift the minds and hearts of the faithful to God and beckon us all to rust in his providence, let go of our anxieties, and seek the kingdom of the Father.
